39th Town & Sheriffs Conference of England and Wales 27
Haverfordwest proudly hosted a Sheriffs’ Weekend culminating in a public parade to St. Mary’s Church for a traditional service. Haverfordwest is only one of two towns in Wales to retain the office of Sheriff. The current Sheriff of Haverfordwest is Cllr. Jill Owens.
Each year, apart from 2020 (the Covid 19 pandemic) the Association has brought together past and current Sheriffs from the UK to celebrate the office and to socialise over a weekend. This conference is hosted in turn by each of the towns who have the honour of a Shrievalty and this year was the turn of Haverfordwest. During the conference weekend members have the opportunity to meet formally at the AGM and then socialise at various events put on over the weekend. The Mayor welcomed the attendees to the Haverfordwest Cricket Club on the Friday. An AGM was held at County Hall with tours to St. Davids and Pembroke Castle for the consorts of those attending. A Gala Evening at the Alt y Avon hotel in Wolfscastle took place on the Saturday evening and then on Sunday there was a procession of robed Sheriffs up to St. Mary’s Church for the traditional service.
The Town Council is grateful for all the assistance from individuals and organisations who helped with the arrangements for this very successful weekend.
The event will be held in Litchfield next year.
